Steinmeier hopes situation in Donbas will soon calm

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has said that tension in eastern Ukraine may ease.
He said this during his visit to Tbilisi on December 8, Deutsche Welle reported.
“There are small signs that we can achieve some calm in the coming days and weeks,” Steinmeier said.
The minister said that he had got such an impression following his recent talks with the Ukrainian and Russian leadership in Kyiv, Moscow, Vienna and Basel.
Steinmeier said that a prerequisite for this was an element of the Minsk agreements, namely the agreement to draw the demarcation line from which fighters should retreat, withdrawing heavy weapons.
“Even if it succeeds, much work will remain to be done. All parties involved in the conflict will have to contribute to the implementation of the agreement so as to prevent the European security system from completely coming to decline and to restore it in a certain period of time,” he said.
