One of the lawyers of Nadia Savchenko Ilya Novikov said that she would not be escorted in the coming days and that some good news may come shortly regarding her fate, according to RIA news agency.
The lawyer elaborated that he was waiting for ”fundamental news” the next week, reads the report.
The lawyer believes that there will be no escorting of Savchenko. According to him, Moscow and Kyiv are engaged in the talks, and ”they are likely to be moving in the right direction, albeit more slowly than we would like.”
”Next week we are waiting for some fundamental news … Any attempt to transfer Nadia in the current situation, in her present state [Savchenko had announced a dry hunger strike] will, in fact, mean an attempt to disrupt such negotiations. This, I believe, nobody wants,” Novikov has told on Inter TV channel.
”And there is another information that I shall not disclose, but it also comes down to the fact that the good news may come in one of the next few days. We hope that it will be sooner than too late,” he said.
Novikov added that the defense intends to request that Savchenko be visited during the weekend by the members of the Public Monitoring Commission, because these days there is no access of lawyers, while the consuls will only get access in the beginning of the week. Novikov also does not rule out that Savchenko may be force-fed during the weekend.
As UaPosition reported earlier, on March 22, Donetsk city court of the Rostov region (Russia) sentenced Savchenko to 22 years in prison for the alleged murder of two Russian journalists.
After the verdict, Nadia Savchenko said she would not appeal, and from April 6, she resumed a hunger strike, demanding her return to Ukraine
