Russia`s VEB may leave Ukrainian market in the long run

Russia`s state-run Vnesheconombank (VEB) announces it may leave the Ukrainian market in the long run, and the decision will be taken after a new strategy has been hammered out, according to Russian business news agency PRIME.
”In the long-term outlook, we`ll be considering possibilities of leaving their [Ukrainian] market. We haven`t held any talks on this issue yet, but perhaps strategically, it will be important to leave the market in the foreseeable future,” Chairman of Vnesheconombank Sergey Gorkov said.
In his words, Vnesheconombank is Russia`s national development bank, which runs a commercial bank in Ukraine. ”These [facts] do not match each other much from the strategic point of view. But the decision will be taken when we develop the strategy,” he said.
He also informed about his meeting with Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeriya Gontareva on Friday.
The future of VEB`s Ukrainian subsidiary, Prominvestbank, was on the agenda of the meeting, he said.
The situation with Prominvestbank`s liquidity is now stable, and he said he expected a decision by the NBU on the withdrawal of the bank from the list of problem banks in Ukraine by the end of the week.
