Russian proxies attack ATO forces 33 times in last day

The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 33 times in the past 24 hours, according to the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO).

”Nine attacks were launched with the use of heavy weapons. Violating the Minsk agreements, the militants fired 120mm mortars in the direction of the town of Popasna, as well as 82mm mortars on the Ukrainian fortified positions near the village of Zaitseve. The situation was also tense near the town of Avdiyivka, where, in addition to both caliber mortars, the enemy fired grenade launchers of various systems, machine guns and small arms,” the report says.

Despite the severe onslaught of militants in the town of Maryinka, where they used the whole arsenal of weapons 14 times, including 82mm mortars, the Armed Forces of Ukraine still control the situation. ”The enemy was also active near the villages of Shyrokyne, Vodiane, Berezove, Novozvanivka, the towns of Krasnohorivka and Schastia, and Butivka coal mine,” the report reads.

”During this period, the Ukrainian military had to return fire 14 times in order to prevent militants` advance,” the press center said.
