Russian mercenaries want to halt gas transit via Ukraine

Pro-Russian militants are trying to stop the transit of natural gas to Europe via Ukraine.
National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) information and analytical center spokesman Andriy Lysenko said this at a briefing on Wednesday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“According to the latest reports, Russian mercenaries began actions that could lead to the disruption of the work of the gas transportation system in temporarily occupied territories. This may pose a threat to gas supply to Europe,” Lysenko said.
He recalled that on September 2, EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger warned of the likelihood of the realization by Russian President Vladimir Putin of the worst-case scenario for EU energy security.
In addition, trying to inflict maximum losses on the Ukrainian economy, militants have already halted gas supply to over 80 settlements in Luhansk region, Lysenko said.
