Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had detained in Russia the Ukrainian lieutenant colonel from the main counterintelligence department of the SBU Security Service of Ukraine, according to the FSB public relations center, RBC reports.
It is noted that the SBU lieutenant colonel Yuriy Ivanchenko was detained on March 26. According to special services, the counterintelligence officer arrived in Russia under the pretext of a visiting his relatives, despite the fact that the SBU had banned its employees from entering the territory of the Russian Federation.
”Even before the arrival in Russia, the FSB received information that the SBU and CIA had prepared Ivanchenko to get recruited by the FSB as a walk-in,” the FSB said.
According to the security services, Ivanchenko was tasked with convincing the FSB to maintain contact with him due his access to classified information.
The FSB said that he would be deported to Ukraine, as he had not inflicted actual damage to national security, and would be banned from entering Russia.
