The Russian Ministry of Economic Development together with the relevant agencies have offered to deal with the dominance of foreign software in the market by fining officials for purchasing foreign soft if there are equivalent Russian-made software products, Russian information agency Rosbalt reports, with reference to the agreed draft report to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
”Deputy Economy Minister Alexey Vedev on May 19 sent a draft report to Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich. According to the newspaper, the penalties for violating the ban on the purchase of foreign hardware and software are offered by the Ministry of Economy together with the Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Industry and Internet Development Institute. This applies to state authorities, local government and state corporations,” the report says.
”The level of responsibility must rule out the possibility of targeted violations of the rules of procurement of software and hardware,” the representative of the Russia`s Ministry of Economic Development Elena Lashkina said.
Lawyers believe that the maximum fine for violating the ban will amount to RUB 30,000 ($450), the newspaper notes.
