The Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has voiced proposals to extend food embargo against Russia until 2018 in response to similar actions of the Russia authorities with regard to Ukraine, Ukraine`s trade representative Nataliya Mykolska told reporters.
”We suggest that the embargo should be extended for the same period that the Russian Federation has extended its embargo against Ukraine,” Mykolska said adding that the Economy Ministry is ready to bring this issue for consideration of the government.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the renewal of the food embargo against Ukraine until December 31, 2017.
In December 2015, Russian authorities took a number of decisions that restricted or completely eliminated in some sectors trade relations with Ukraine. Thus, the Russian president signed a decree on the suspension of a free trade deal with Ukraine within the CIS [Commonwealth of Independent States], effective from January 1, 2016. In addition, Russia imposed an embargo on exports of Ukrainian food and some industrial goods. Ukraine responded with retaliatory measures having introduced import duties on a wide range of Russian goods and commodity groups at rates varying in the range of 1.5%-19% with a transition period of three-five years.
