Recognition of terrorist elections to strengthen sanctions against Russia – media

The European Union may tighten sanctions against Russia if Russian authorities recognize the results of elections in Donbas that were scheduled by the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) for November 2.
Kommersant reported this, citing a well-informed source in the EU structures.
According to the source, Brussels is confident that the holding of elections on that day is contrary to the Minsk agreements, and thus by recognizing the results of the vote, Russia contributes not to resolving the Ukrainian crisis, but to transforming it into a” frozen conflict.”
A source in the EU structures made it clear that Brussels could again strengthen sanctions against Russia if it recognizes the results of the vote in DPR and LPR on November 2.
