Rada may consider cutting diplomatic ties with Russia

The Verkhovna Rada committee on foreign affairs Wednesday, March 30, has passed a draft resolution on severing diplomatic relations with Russia, MP Volodymyr Parasyuk said on Wednesday, according to TSN.ua.
Parasyuk says the resolution will be submitted for consideration after the decision of the conciliatory council of the parliament. According to preliminary data, it will take place on April 11.
According to the draft, the reason for the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia is a violation of the rights of Ukrainian citizens, capturing and holding hostages in the Russian Federation, as well as violation of the principles of international immunity, including with respect to Ukrainian MP, member of Ukraine`s delegation to PACE Nadia Savchenko.
If the resolution is adopted, the draft law on the termination or suspension of international treaties of the Russian Federation must be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada within a month; all international treaties with Russia should be terminated, and it would be necessary to determine the country, whose embassy and consulate will represent the interests of Ukraine.
In addition, the president must decide on the question of the termination or suspension of international treaties.
At the same time, the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko believes that the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia will lead to an exacerbation of hostilities and the repression against the Ukrainians in the Russian Federation.
According to Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada`s Committee on Foreign Affairs Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, in the case of the ad break of diplomatic relations, Russia will immediately boost its repressions against the Ukrainians in the Russian Federation, and Ukraine will not be able to protect them.
Meanwhile, MP from the ”People`s Front,” Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs Ihor Huz insists on consideration of the draft resolution on the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia by the Verkhovna Rada.
”I personally appeal to Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada`s committee on foreign affairs Hanna Hopko to submit our decision immediately, today, to support this resolution to the secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada, to the conciliation board and to the session hall of the Parliament,” Huz said.
