Putin says ready to become ”guarantor of agreements” between Kyiv, militants

The Russian leader offers to mediate in the negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian-backed militants in Donbas, according to RIA Novosti.

”What we can do is to create the conditions for the negotiation process and participate in it as mediators and guarantors of the agreements reached. That is what we can, want, and will do if our partners in Kyiv want it,” RIA Novosti quoted Putin as saying.

As UNIAN reported earlier, September 14, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier at a joint press conference with the foreign ministers of Ukraine and France in Kyiv, after visiting Moscow, said that on the night of September 15, a week-long ceasefire would enter into force in Donbas.

However, the Kremlin later stated they had not promised Germany a ceasefire in Donbas as Russia ”is not party to the conflict.”

Meanwhile, the Russian-backed militants in Donbas continue to violate the truce.
