Putin, Poroshenko may meet in Milan next week – media

Presidents Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine, Vladimir Putin of Russia, Francois Hollande of France and German Chancellor Angela Merkel could hold a meeting as part of the Asia-Europe summit (ASEM) in Milan next week, ITAR-TASS reported on Thursday, citing Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov.
“The Russian president will visit Italy next week to attend the ASEM summit. In this regard, he is to hold a series of meetings with Western partners, at which Ukraine will be a key subject. A meeting in the Normandy format – between Putin, Merkel, Hollande, and Poroshenko – is not ruled out,” he said.
According to Ushakov, the leaders of Germany, France, Britain and representatives of the European Commission are planning to come to Milan.
A meeting between the Russian president, the German chancellor, as well as the presidents of France and Ukraine was held in Normandy on June 6 during events marking the 70th anniversary commemorations of the World War II Normandy landings.
