A prominent Russian public figure and writer has appealed to the Chernihiv unit`s border guards, while crossing the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, to grant him refugee status in Ukraine due to political persecution in Russia, the press service of Ukraine`s State Border Guard Service reported, without identifying the Russian.
”The Russian citizen is a well-known writer and public figure who has been involved in protest activities against Putin`s political regime in Russia,” the press service`s statement read.
Currently, the Ukrainian migration service is handling the request for asylum.
As UNIAN reported earlier, in June a Russian citizen, who is a native of Dagestan, when crossing the state border with Belarus asked for refugee status in Ukraine because of religious persecution in Russia.
