Prodan says Ukraine may prepay for Russian gas by December 1

Ukraine plans to make a prepayment to Russia for natural gas before December 1, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan has said.
“Purchases will start once the cold sets in. It’s possible we’ll start (pre-payments) before December 1… The situation is not yet critical,” Reuters quoted him as saying.
He said that the country expected to buy up to 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia by the end of the year.
As reported, on October 30 in Brussels, Ukraine, the EU and Russia concluded negotiations on the temporary terms of Russian natural gas supplies for the period until March 31, 2015. Negotiators reached an agreement by signing the following documents: a trilateral protocol between the governments of Ukraine, Russia and the European Commission, and a supplementary agreement to the contract between Naftogaz of Ukraine and Gazprom. The price of gas for Ukraine was agreed at $378 per 1,000 cubic meters in the fourth quarter of 2014 and $365 per 1,000 cubic meters in the first quarter of 2015.
