Private traders account for half of gas imports from EU

Spokesperson for state-owned Ukrtransgaz, the operator of Ukraine`s gas transport system, Maksym Bielawski says that 50% of Ukraine`s gas purchases from the EU last month was handled by 12 private trading companies, which was six times higher than the number of traders in March 2015.

”The good news is that private traders (12 companies) accounted for 50.1% of gas supplies from Europe in March [2016]. For comparison, only two companies and NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine were importing gas from the EU in March 2015,” Bielawski wrote on Facebook.

At this, he noted that Ukraine imported 478 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas from the EU in March 2016.

As UaPosition reported earlier, Ukraine, which has been importing about 90% of its gas from Slovakia, has reduced its hydrocarbons purchases along the route starting from early April 2016 by 79.85%, to 2.7 mcm from 13.4 mcm per day, as compared with the daily supply in late March 2016.
