Poroshenko’s press secretary responds to threats from Russia

Ukraine individually makes decisions on the further implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union, Ukrainian presidential press secretary Sviatoslav Tseholko has told Interfax-Ukraine.
“Ukraine is a sovereign state and individually makes decisions on the ratification and implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU,” he said, when asked to comment on reports in the media regarding the fear of the Russian leadership due to the entry into force of this agreement.
Tseholko recalled on September 16, the Ukrainian parliament ratified the Association Agreement with 355 in favor and that on the next day the Cabinet of Ministers approved a plan for the implementation of this document.
Earlier media reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin had sent a letter to Ukrainian President Peter Poroshenko noting that Russia will limit Ukraine’s access to the Russian market if Kyiv implements the trading part of the agreement with the EU, Ukrainska Pravda reported.
According to the report, the Russian government is ready to eliminate the free trade regime for Ukrainian exports even if amendments are introduced to the legislation as part of preparations for the entry into force of the free trade area.
In addition, in this letter the Russian president insists on the need to correct the economic part of the Association Agreement, which is opposed by Kyiv and Brussels.
