Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has fired head of the Mykolayiv Regional State Administration Vadym Merikov, according to a presidential decree No.277 from June 29, 2016.
”To dismiss Merikov, Vadym Ivanovich from the post of a chairman of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration according to a letter of resignation filed,” the document reads.
As UNIAN reported earlier, June 15, President Poroshenko during his Mykolayiv visit turned to the prosecutor general with a proposal to dismiss the prosecutor of Mykolayiv region for inaction in the fight against corruption.
Poroshenko also addressed the Minister of Internal Affairs and chief of National Police over the need to fire the local police chief.
”After our conversation, Vadym Merikov wrote a letter of resignation from the post of a chairman of the regional state administration. It is political responsibility,” Poroshenko said.
As reported earlier, in early June, the SBU operatives, together with the military prosecutors detained on bribery charges a group of officials, headed by the first deputy chairman of the Mykolayiv Regional State Administration, Mykola Romanchuk.
The law enforcers revealed during searches at the offices and houses of the defendants, including in the mansion of Romanchuk, a suitcase with $300,000 in cash and a significant number of jewellery. Under Romanchuk`s house, the SBU officers discovered a network of tunnels, with safes containing gold ingots, ancient icons, antiques, and silverware. Black accounting books were also kept in the safes, which is an evidence of corruption deals.
