Poroshenko proposes creating working group with Hungary and Slovakia to strengthen energy security in Europe

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has proposed creating a working group between Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia to use new technical possibilities for strengthening energy security in Europe.
He said this on Monday during a telephone conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, the presidential press service reported.
“The sides also discussed topical issues of energy cooperation, in particular, in the field of gas supply. Petro Poroshenko noted the importance of common approaches in energy policy to strengthen regional and European energy security. The sides discussed the new technical possibilities of diversification of gas supply due to the launch of a new interconnector between Hungary and Slovakia at the end of this year. Petro Poroshenko proposed the creation of a working group between Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia to use new technical possibilities for strengthening energy security in Europe,” reads the statement.
In addition, the head of state proposed introducing joint controls on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border to revive economic cooperation and combat corruption.
Poroshenko also thanked Hungary for its support and praised the discussion of the prospects of multilateral and bilateral cooperation with Hungarian President Janos Ader, which took place on November 16 in Bratislava during a meeting of the presidents of the Visegrad Group countries and Ukraine.
The Hungarian prime minister, in turn, welcomed the development of Ukrainian-Hungarian dialogue at the highest level and called for the development of good neighborly relations. Orban assured that Hungary was a reliable partner of Ukraine and fully supported its sovereignty and territorial integrity, because this, in his opinion, was the key to stability and good neighborly relations.
“The sides agreed on a regular dialogue for the coordination of efforts, which are an important factor for the unity of the European Union and its solidarity with Ukraine. Poroshenko Petro invited Viktor Orban to visit Ukraine immediately after the formation of the new government,” reads the statement.
