Poroshenko expects new prosecutor general in mid-May

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko forecasts that a new prosecutor general will be appointed during the parliament`s next plenary meeting, which is scheduled for May 10-13.

”This is an extremely important stage of building a new system of power, and I`m firmly confident that we should obtain a new prosecutor general during the first plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada [on May 10-13],” he told TV channels on Sunday.
”It`s is not only our commitment to the Ukrainian people, but it`s also the confirmation of the position before financial organizations and others so that we could receive financing from our partners,” the president said.
As UaPosition reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada on March 29 gave 289 votes in favor of the dismissal of Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.

On April 3, Poroshenko signed a decree to dismiss Shokin.

On April 21, Chairman of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc parliamentary faction Yuriy Lutsenko said that the president was considering at least four candidates for the prosecutor general`s post.
