Poroshenko: Even unpopular measures to be used to bring peace to Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says peace in Donbas will be ensured even if steps to be taken become unpopular with Ukrainian society.
”We will ensure peace in Donbas, even if we have to use some steps that are unpopular with Ukrainian society,” Poroshenko said at the Japan National Press Club on Wednesday.
According to him, Ukraine has been waging war for the second year in a row, facing ”barbaric Russian aggression.” About 10,000 people have been killed and 21,000 Ukrainian citizens have been injured in the war. Over 1.7 million people have become internally displaced persons.
”This is the price Ukraine has been paying for the right to be a free, democratic and European country,” he said.
The Minsk agreements are now the only way for the return of peace to Donbas, he added.
