Poroshenko creates Council on Judicial Reform

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a Decree on creation of the Council on the Judicial Reform and appointed Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Oleksiy Filatov as its coordinator.
The presidential press service informs about this.
“During a meeting with Olekiy Filatov, the President stressed that after adoption of the Law “On the Prosecutor’s Office” and the anti-corruption package of laws, including those on the establishment of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the judicial reform comes to the foreground. It has a priority to protection of human rights, building of a democratic state, creating a favorable investment climate and bringing Ukraine closer to the EU,” a statement reads.
Poroshenko said that he expects from the new parliament that will be elected at the preterm elections on October 26, cooperation in holding the judicial reform.
“After the parliamentary elections, we should not lose a single day, a single week. Having developed the content of the judicial reform with the assistance of the best representatives of the judiciary, civil society representatives, academics, lawyers, human rights activists, we have to fulfill the commitments that we have undertaken during the signing of the Association Agreement,” he said.
The President instructed the Coordinator of the Council on the Judicial Reform to inform within two weeks on the first results of activities.
In addition, according to Poroshenko, implementation of the Law “On the Prosecutor’s Office” should be held as soon as possible.
