Poroshenko cancels visit to Turkey, urgently convenes NSDC meeting

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has cancelled his working visit to Turkey due to the deteriorating situation in Donetsk region and is convening an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), the presidential press service has reported.
“I have decided to cancel my working visit to Turkey due to the worsening situation in Donetsk region, particularly in Amvrosiyivka and Starobesheve, because there was the use of Russian troops in Ukraine,” he said, adding that he decided to cancel his visit despite seven planned bilateral meetings.
Poroshenko said that today he would convene a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council to plan further actions.
“Ukraine will urgently initiate a meeting of the UN Security Council. The world should assess a sharp aggravation of the situation in Ukraine,” he said.
He also said that Ukraine would ask its European partners to hold an emergency meeting of the Council of the European Union.
