Poroshenko backs creation of Chornobyl radiation-ecological biosphere reserve

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on the establishment of the Chornobyl radiation-ecological biosphere reserve, the president`s press service told an UNIAN correspondent.
A biosphere reserve will become one of Ukraine`s largest environmental institutions with a total area of 227,000 hectares.
It will be located in the territory of Ivankivskiy and Poliskiy districts of Kyiv region within the exclusion zone and zone of unconditional (obligatory) resettlement after the Chornobyl disaster.
”The establishment of the Chornobyl radiation-ecological biosphere reserve became an important first step toward the revival of the territories affected by radioactive contamination as a result of a technogenic catastrophe,” the report reads.
