Poltorak: Ukraine to ask only anti-aircraft, anti-tank systems from U.S.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak has said that Ukraine will ask the United States to supply the weapons it needs most – anti-aircraft and anti-tank systems, according to Ukrainian TV Channel 24.

However, Poltorak did not disclose when Ukraine might receive the lethal weapons, pointing out that it is known only in the United States whose president shall make a respective decision, Channel 24 reported.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on September 22, the U.S. House of Representatives passed unanimously H.R. 5094 ”Stability and Democracy for Ukraine Act.”

The bill states that it is the policy of the United States to further assist the Government of Ukraine in restoring its sovereignty and territorial integrity to contain, reverse, and deter Russian aggression in Ukraine and that that policy shall be carried into effect, among other things, through a comprehensive effort, in coordination with allies and partners of the United States, that includes sanctions, diplomacy, and assistance, including lethal defensive weapons systems.

Some provisions of the bill are aimed at countering Russian propaganda and boosting foreign investment in Ukraine`s economy.
