Poll: Almost 44% of Ukrainians support idea of NATO membership

As many as 43.9% of Ukrainian citizens say they support the idea of Ukraine`s NATO membership, while 38% are against it, according to a public opinion poll conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology between May 20 and June 2.
At the same time, 18.1% of those polled found it difficult to answer whether they would support Ukraine`s accession to NATO, according to the findings of the poll, which were announced at a press conference in UNIAN`s press center on Thursday, June 9.
The poll also shows that 46.2% of the pollees believe that Ukraine should integrate into the European Union, while 11.6% would like to see Ukraine as a member of the Customs Union along with Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.
Almost a third – 32.1% of the polled – did not support Ukraine`s membership of the EU or the Customs Union.
A total of 2,043 people were questioned in personal interviews in 110 Ukrainian towns and cities, except for temporarily occupied areas in Donbas and Crimea.
The poll`s margin of error is no more than 3.3% for indicators close to 50%, 2.8% for those close to 25%, 2% for those close to 10%, and 1.4% close to 5%.
