Polish lawyer charged with spying for Russia convicted to 4 years in prison

Warsaw`s District Court has sentenced a lawyer to a four-year prison term on spying charges, according to PAP.

The lawyer was convicted for spying in favor of Russia`s military intelligence, GRU, the act which inflicted damage to Poland, PAP reports.

However, the convict does plead guilty.

The prosecution requested a six-year term.

It is noted that the trial began in 2016, while all hearings were held behind closed doors.

Earlier, Poland`s counterintelligence detained an officer on suspicion of spying for the Russian Federation, according to tvn24.pl. The suspect was a senior lieutenant who has been on the wanted list since August this year. He is suspected of transferring classified information to the Russian intelligence.
