Ukrainian Prosecutor General`s Office interrogates Orthodox Church Metropolitan Onufriy

The Prosecutor General`s Office has interrogated Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Onufriy as a witness in the case of illegal imprisonment of former head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Volodymyr and a metropolitan Drabynko, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said in an interview with Channel 24.

”According to the investigation, it was Yanukovych who ordered former Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko to imprison head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Volodymyr and metropolitan Drabynko in order to force Volodymyr to resign in favor of the Yanukovych`s man,” he said.

”We have plenty of evidence, mainly from church people. The current Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Onufriy was also questioned as a witness as well as a lot of people who worked there, including Drabynko,” Lutsenko said.

”Drabynko testifies of certain things that can change the procedural status of MP Novinsky, who is now a witness. Procedural confrontation has been held between them. At the moment, the final interrogations of several important people are held and we will make a decision on Novinsky`s status, and if there are grounds to charge him, he will become a suspect,” the prosecutor general said.

”We do see a reason to bring to justice former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in this episode. He had decided to reign not only over the Constitutional Court, the Parliament, the Cabinet of Ministers, and the oligarchs, but also over the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate,” he said.
