Peskov says Ukraine should stick to Eurovision rules as host country – media

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says that the rules of selecting participants in the Eurovision song contest are general for all countries, and Ukraine that will host the event in 2017 will have to follow them.
”Eurovision is an international contest and the host country should follow the Eurovision rules,” Peskov told TASS while commenting on the participation of contestants from Russia in next year`s competition.
”All the rest is in their competence,” he said.
Speaking on whether Russia should skip the Eurovision in Ukrainian territory, Peskov said: ”It is early to rattle a sabre!”
Ukrainian singer Jamala on May 14 won the 61st Eurovision Song Contest with the song called ”1944,” and the next competition will be hosted by Ukraine. Russia`s Sergey Lazarev who sang the song ”You Are the Only One” came third.
Ukrainian MP Anton Gerashchenko told the ”Govorit Moskva” radio station shortly after the contest that the representatives of Russia who voice their support ”for Russia`s aggression against Ukraine” will not be able to perform at the next year`s contest. Only those singers who do not support the annexation of Crimea by Russia will be able to take part in the song competition, he said.
