”Package of consistent support” for Ukraine to be adopted at NATO summit – Bloc`s Rep.

A ”package of consistent support of Ukraine” is to be adopted at the NATO summit in Warsaw, Director of NATO Liaison Office in Ukraine Alexander Vinnikov said at a briefing during the 3rd International Conference ”Management and the reform of the national security and intelligence services: the best international practice” in Kyiv on Tuesday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
Vinnikov said NATO ”has been supporting Ukraine more politically and practically over the past years.” ”Our commitment to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is reinforced by the fact that the decision was made at the highest level to hold a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO council at the Warsaw summit, which will be held next week,” he said.
According to the chief of NATO Liaison Office in Ukraine, the main document, which should be adopted at the summit, is a ”package of consistent support of Ukraine.”
Speaking about today`s conference on the reform of the national security and intelligence services, Vinnikov said that it aimed at discussing two main issues that might be included in this package. ”The first is the democratic oversight. And the role should be played by the parliament and civil society, developing the oversight of the security sector. And the second direction is the support of a wide security sector, that is, we are talking not only about the defense forces,” he said, adding that the SBU plays a particularly important role in this area.
Vinnikov said that ”we help our colleagues in the SBU Security Service of Ukraine to implement this important reform process, and we work together with our colleagues from the EU, with the EU advisory mission.” ”We believe that this dialogue contributes to real progress,” he said.
At the same time, he said that, in addition to the reform concept, it was necessary to develop a plan for its implementation, with clear deadlines. ”We would also like to see the supervisory structures formed, as well as the appropriate legislation adopted,” Vinnikov said noting the key role of the Ukrainian Parliament in this regard.
