PACE President arrives in Ukraine

President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Anne Brasseur has arrived in Ukraine. First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy met her at the airport.
“I told her about the situation in Ukraine and the tragedy in Volnovakha. Brasseur expressed her condolences to the Ukrainian people,” Parubiy wrote on his Facebook page.
Brasseur plans to meet with Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Hroisman and other senior officials during her two-day visit.
PACE President’s visit takes place before PACE January session, during which a report on the humanitarian situation regarding Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons is planned to be under consideration, Radio Liberty reported.
The powers of the Russian delegation to PACE will be discussed as one of the important issues on the agenda. Since April 2014, the Russian delegation has no voting rights in the international organization due to the Russian deputies’ support to the occupation and annexation of Crimea by Moscow.
