OSCE supports Red Cross` possible involvement in Donbas swap mediation

Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in Ukraine and in the Trilateral Contact Group on the implementation of the peace plan in the east of Ukraine Ambassador Martin Sajdik says he supports possible involvement of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in mediation of the release of Ukrainian soldiers held captive in Donbas, according to Belarus` news service, BELTA.

”There is such a positive, in my opinion, move. There is growing understanding that it is necessary to involve the ICRC in solving this very, very complicated problem,” Sajdik said in Minsk on Wednesday.

He explained that the ICRC`s participation would add objectivity and provide grounds for the resolution of the issue.

”So far there will be lists from one side, lists from the other side. And who will match these lists? This could be the ICRC`s role,” he added.

He expressed hope that the ICRC would join in the process.
