Obama thinks sanctions against Russia are effective

U.S. President Barack Obama has said at a news conference in Washington that Western sanctions against Russia have proved to be effective.
“Sanctions are working as intended in putting enormous pressure and strain on the Russian economy,” he said.
According to Obama, the Russian economy has ground to a halt, the Associated Press reported.
The U.S. president said that in the current situation Russia has a choice between a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis and the continuation of the current line, which leads to even greater losses to the economy and its people. In this case, Obama called for a political settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, Deutsche Welle reported.
Obama also added that the decision to provide U.S. military assistance to Kyiv had not yet been made.
