Obama, Merkel agree to hold Russia accountable

U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed the need to hold Russia accountable for the escalation of the conflict in eastern Ukraine in a telephone conversation.
According to the White House press-service, the conversation took place on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“The leaders expressed their concern about a significant increase in violence in the east of Ukraine, as well as Russia’s financial aid to separatists and its failure to fulfill obligations in accordance with the Minsk agreements,” reads the report.
The parties also “agreed on the need to hold Russia accountable for its actions.”
In addition, the leaders agreed on “the importance of efforts to create a powerful package of financial support to Ukraine to stabilize its economy.” It is reiterated that the reforms, that are now taking place in Ukraine, will lay the groundwork of its economy return to growth and prosperity.
