Nuland visits Moscow to discuss Donbas with Russian officials

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland and NSC Senior Directors Celeste Wallander and Charles Kupchan met with Russian officials in Moscow on October 5 to discuss the situation in eastern Ukraine and next steps to implement the Minsk peace agreements on Donbas, according to the Embassy of the Unites States in Russia.

The Russian side was represented by Presidential Foreign Policy Advisor Yuri Ushakov and Senior Advisor Vladislav Surkov.

Both sides reiterated that disengagement from the first sites on the line of contact represents an important initial step toward improved security, but far more work remains, the U.S. Embassy said.

They also reviewed the ongoing work on the political, security, and humanitarian aspects of the Minsk agreements.

In addition, Nuland and Wallander met with civil society leaders and religious organizations.
