NBU names systemically important banks

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has approved methods for determining systemically important banks and included eight financial institutions in such a list, the central bank’s press service has reported.
“In accordance with resolution No. 863, eight banks were systemically important as of December 1, 2014: PJSC PrivatBank, JSC Oschadbank, Ukreximbank, JSC Delta Bank, JSC Raiffeisen Bank Aval, PJSC Ukrsotsbank, PJSC Prominvestbank, JSC Sberbank of Russia,” reads the statement.
The NBU said that systemically important banks would be determined every year, using a multivariable mathematical model, based on the criteria of systemic importance. The main criteria for systemic importance are total assets, liabilities of legal entities and individuals, the amount of interbank lending and the amount of lending to the key sectors of the economy. The purpose of the introduction of the regulations is to establish a methodology for identifying systemically important banks whose activities influence the stability of the banking system.
The resolution will enter into force on January 1, 2015.
