NBU asks media not to inflate panic

The National Bank of Ukraine appealed to the mass media to objectively report the fluctuation rate against other currencies, citing the confirmed statistics on the foreign exchange market as a whole, contained on the regulator’s website.
A respective request to journalists was aired at the NBU, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Unfortunately, the cases become frequent when known information sources distort the results of trading on the interbank market and the media do not publish the representative hryvnia exchange rate, but, in particular, the highest rates of one-time, usually small-scale transactions of the currency purchase and sale,” the National Bank explained its position.
The National Bank offers to present the hrynvia weighted average exchange rate against other currencies on the interbank market at 9:30 a.m. (at the opening) and at 17:00 (at closing), from Monday through Thursday, and at 11:00 a.m. and 16:00 on Friday.
The National Bank publishes the official hryvnia rate around 14:00.
