NATO secretary general to visit Ukraine on August 7

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen will visit Ukraine on August 7, Head of Ukraine’s Mission to NATO, Ambassador Ihor Dolhov, has said.
He said that the visit would take place ahead of the NATO summit due on September 4-5 in Wales (the United Kingdom). The NATO-Ukraine Commission is to hold a meeting at the level of heads of state and government as part of the summit.
“The NATO secretary general’s visit to Kyiv on August 7 will be fruitful and important for preparations for the summit. It is expected that Rasmussen will meet with Ukraine’s leaders and that there will be an exchange of views on the question of what we have for the summit. The secretary general, in turn, will have the opportunity to hear about Ukraine’s current problems and a vision of prospects for NATO’s cooperation with Ukraine,” UNIAN quoted Dolhov as saying.
According to the ambassador, Rasmussen’s visit will be short. “As far as I know, the period of the secretary general’s stay in Ukraine is very limited – a few hours,” he said.
