National energy regulator approves investment plan for Ukraine GTS until 2025

The National Energy and Utility Regulation Commission (NEURC) agreed on July 7 to approve changes in the 2016-2025 gas transportation system (GTS) development plan prepared for Ukrtransgaz, the Ukrainian GTS operator, with a total amount of investment reaching UAH 69.9 billion.
Ukrtransgaz has also been tasked with drafting within a week`s term an updated plan for the development of Ukraine`s GTS. It was also instructed to report on the tender procedures it had carried out to supply equipment for the modernization of the GTS.
In addition, the NEURC has adopted changes to the GTS development plan, according to which the company will invest UAH 3.6 billion in the modernization of gas pumping equipment for natural gas supplies to the Balkan countries, the press service of Ukrtransgaz reported. The funds allocated will be utilized during the 2016-2018 period.
As UNIAN reported earlier, in 2015 Ukrtransgaz increased funding to carry out repairs of GTS facilities by UAH 0.9 billion as compared with the previous year, to UAH 1.7 billion. Also that year, the company increased its capital investments by UAH 0.7 billion to UAH 1.2 billion, according to its financial plan.
The company`s investment plan stated that in 2015 the company would allocate UAH 2.703 billion for the modernization and repairs of main gas pipelines, as well as compressor stations and underground gas storage facilities.

The Ukrainian gas transportation system consists of main gas pipelines with a total length of more than 37,000 kilometers, distribution networks, 12 gas storage facilities with a capacity 31 billion cubic meters, compression and metering stations. It is the second largest gas transportation system in Europe and one of the largest ones in the world. The GTS capacity on the border with Russia is about 288 billion cubic meters per year.
