Based on the results of the diagnostic survey of top 20 banks, conducted by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in 2015, the largest banking institutions had taken measures to implement the program of recapitalization with the total volume of UAH 108 billion as of September 1, 2016.

The banks can perform a capitalization program, both through the capital increase, as well as by reducing credit risk, including the strengthening of the pledge on risky loans and recovery of collateral on bad loans, as reported on the NBU`s website.

According to the NBU, the cumulative positive effect for the capital from the risk reduction measures amounted to UAH 30.4 billion, as well as UAH 78 billion from the capital increase.

It is also reported that the National Bank plans to complete the diagnostics and approve plans for recapitalization of more than 40 banks until 2017 and to carry out targeted assessment of the viability and capital needs of other Ukrainian banks by the end of June 2017.
