Naftogaz signs memo on possible cooperation with two European gas transport system operators

The national oil and gas holding Naftogaz of Ukraine and Ukrtransgaz, operator of Ukraine`s gas transport system, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on joint assessment of cooperation opportunities in the use and development of Ukraine`s gas transportation system (GTS) with Snam S.p.A. (Italy) and Eustream a.s. (Slovakia) – one of the largest and most experienced GTS operators in the European Union, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman wrote on Facebook.

”The Memorandum was signed in the presence of Ukraine`s Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalyk, European Climate Commissioner Miguel Arias Canete, and Minister of Economic Development of Italy Carlo Calenda,” the report says.

It is noted that this is a good signal of confidence in Ukraine and confidence in the importance of Ukraine`s GTS for Europe.

”We are confident that we will maintain our positions in the gas transportation market. And the cooperation that is currently developing will make it possible to use international experience and knowledge for the transformation of the Ukrainian operator by European standards,” Groysman noted.

”Other European operators also expressed their interest in cooperation; we plan to hold a competition for the best cooperation offer. The final decision on a possible partnership, according to the Law on the natural gas market, will be taken by the Ukrainian government,” the statement says.
