Naftogaz ready to renew trilateral negotiations with Gazprom

National Joint Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine has confirmed its readiness to renew trilateral negotiations with Gazprom to agree on the terms for gas purchase from Russia, the company`s press service reported, referring to a proposal voiced by Maros Sefcovic, vice-president of the European Commission, on July 19.
”We are grateful to the European Commission for its proposed help in conducting the trilateral negotiations,” the press service quoted Andriy Kobolyev, Naftogaz CEO, as saying.
Naftogaz is ready to participate in such a meeting in the near future and at a place suitable for all the parties, the press service confirmed.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine has not used direct gas supplies from Russia for almost 240 days. In the first quarter of 2016, Naftogaz imported gas from the European Union at an average price of $198 per 1,000 cubic meters, lower by 34% year-on-year.
The major suppliers during this period were Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. Ukrainian Energy Minister Ihor Nasalyk stated that Ukraine would be ready to resume gas imports from Russia, provided Gazprom offered reasonable prices.
In early July, Naftogaz`s CEO announced that Gazprom had refused to sign an additional agreement to the 2009 contract on natural gas purchase, which was a major requirement for resuming Russian gas purchase by Ukraine.
Naftogaz appealed to the Stockholm arbitration court seeking the revision of terms of the gas contract with Gazprom.
