Naftogaz to import gas from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary in March

Ukraine`s national JSC oil and gas giant, Naftogaz of Ukraine, plans to import gas from Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary in March.

”Imports from Slovakia will be about 40 million cubic meters per day. As for Poland and Hungary – we`ll see, as these routes are auxiliary for Naftogaz,” the company`s CCO Yuriy Vitrenko said at the Ukrainian Energy Forum on Tuesday, February 28.

He also estimated that Ukraine would have 6 billion cubic meters of gas by the end of the 2016-2017 heating season.

”Imports will considerably decline in April – they will be minimum. We see now there is enough gas until the end of the heating season,” he said.

Earlier, Ukraine in 2016 imported 11.1 billion cubic meters of gas from the European Union alone. In particular, it bought 9.1 billion cubic meters of gas from Slovakia, 1 billion cubic meters of gas from Hungary, and 1 billion cubic meters of gas from Poland.

Ukraine stopped buying Russian gas in November 2015. It did not buy gas from Russia throughout 2016.
