Naftogaz CEO names condition for Ukraine to consider buying Russian gas

Naftogaz of Ukraine is ready to resume direct purchase of natural gas from the Russian energy monopoly Gazprom in case the gas price is lower than that offered by the European suppliers, the company`s CEO Andriy Kobolev told TV Channel 5 Monday night.
According to Kobolev, if Gazprom agrees to make temporary changes to the current contract and if the gas price is lower than the one offered in the European Union, ”from the standpoint of minimizing consumer costs and common sense in general, it would be right to buy the gas from the east.”
”The dialogue is now underway on this issue. Naftogazplans to resume gas imports in the third quarter, so there`s still a month to go,” Kobolev said, without naming a specific price, which is being discussed.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Yulia Kovaliv said Ukraine had not been buying natural gas from the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom for more than five months since it was more profitable for the country to import gas from the European Union.
