Naftogaz calls price of ”European” gas for Ukraine in 3Q 2016

Ukraine`s oil and gas giant NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine purchased gas from European suppliers for an average of $187 per 1,000 cubic meters in the third quarter of this year, the company told UNIAN.

In September, the price of fuel dropped to $178 per 1,000 cubic meters. The total amount of fuel purchased amounted to 2.64 billion cubic meters.

”For almost a year, the suppliers of Naftogaz have had no business with Russia`s gas giant Gazprom. This is due to the refusal of the Russian monopoly to sign an additional agreement, which, inter alia, provides that paid funds are only used to pay for new gas supplies and only through Ukraine-controlled entry points. Also, an additional agreement overrides the principle of take-or-pay during the period of its validity and establish a flexible schedule of applications and payments for gas,” Naftogaz said in a statement.

The average price of fuel in the first quarter of this year was $191 per 1,000 cubic meters. In the second quarter, Naftogaz did not purchase fuel.

As of mid-October, gas stocks amounted to about 14.7 billion cubic meters. According to Naftogaz, the volume is sufficient to meet the company`s contractual obligations to supply gas to all categories of the consumers during the heating season. According to forecasts of the Hydrometeorological Center of Ukraine, the duration of the heating season in 2016-2017 will amount to 160-180 days.
