MPs given 45 days for campaigning before new elections

The election campaign for early parliamentary elections in Ukraine this year will be reduced by a quarter – to 45 days.
Such an agreement was reached at a meeting between President Petro Poroshenko, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk and the heads of parliamentary factions and groups, the press service of the Ukrainian parliament reported.
“During the meeting the sides discussed the holding of early parliamentary elections in 2014. In view of the adoption by parliament of the law on amendments to the state budget for the current year, a significant reduction in budget expenditures, the meeting participants agreed on the need to reduce the cost of election procedures and reduce in this respect the period of the election campaign from 60 to 45 days,” reads the statement.
According to the parliament’s press service, the meeting participants agreed to prepare an agreed draft of amendments to the electoral law.
