MPs ban sale of Ukrzaliznytsia

The Verkhovna Rada has included Public Joint Stock Company Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia), established on the basis of the State Administration of Railway Transport of Ukraine, in the list of enterprises prohibited from privatization in the framework of the company`s corporatization, an UNIAN correspondent reports.
A corresponding government-proposed bill No.4594 On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine On the list of objects of state property not subject to privatization  was supported by 250 deputies with the required minimum of 226 votes.
According to the explanatory memorandum, the law is aimed at retaining 100% of Ukrzaliznytsia shares in state ownership and ensuring Ukraine`s economic security.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan repeatedly noted that the Cabinet did not intend to have Ukrzaliznytsia privatized. He also stated that only a sale of non-core assets of the state-owned company will be potentially considered to be sold.
