MPs adopt statement on Ukraine’s future EU membership

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a resolution on the European choice of Ukraine, through which is actually filed a bid to join the EU.
A total of 298 lawmakers voted for such a decision on Tuesday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as the only legislative body that realizes the will of its constituents states that by ratifying the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, Ukraine, as a European country that shares common values of democracy and rule of law, emphasizes its sovereign choice in favor of future membership of the EU, in accordance with Article 49 of the EU Treaty,” Parliament Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov said, reading out the statement.
The speaker also noted that Ukraine’s choice regarding the European future was “decisive and final.”
