Mogherini: EU ready to put pressure on Russia

Foreign Affairs Council of the EU has decided to maintain sanctions against Russia.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said this after an extraordinary meeting of the EU Council in Brussels on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“We have decided to extend the restrictive measures targeting persons and entities which were adopted in March. We have decided to extend them until September. In addition, we also decided to present within a week a proposal for new names and entities to be added to the existing list of those suffering from the restrictive measures. This decision will be taken at the next meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in 10 days, on February 9,” Mogherini said.
Besides, according to her, the EU Council tasked the European External Action Service and the European Commission to start preparatory work on further action, aiming at full implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Mogherini said that the decision to impose new tightened sanctions against Russia is within the competence of the European Council.
As reported, the next meeting of the European Council will be held on February12.
