Militants fire grenade launchers, mortars on ATO forces near Avdiyivka

The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 50 times in the past 24 hours, using banned weapons, according to press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO).

The situation was most tense near the town of Avdiyivka, where the militants fired 120mm and 82mm mortars 15 times on ATO forces.

In addition, they used grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms. ”The illegal armed groups also tried to storm one of the Ukrainian fortified positions. The Ukrainian military returned fire, and the enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group of six people had to retreat. In the Donetsk sector, the occupiers attacked ATO forces near the Butivka coal mine, the villages of Luhanske, Pisky, Opytne and Zaitseve,” the press center said.
It was restless in other sectors of the front line. The Russia-backed mercenaries fired 120mm mortars and anti-tank missile systems near the village of Novotroyitske. In the Mariupol sector, the enemy fired rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns, and small arms on the Ukrainian troops in the town of Maryinka, as well as the villages of Shyrokyne and Taramchuk.
”The Ukrainian military opened fire in response several times in order to hold their positions. In general, the situation remains difficult, but controlled by ATO forces,” the press center said.
