Medvedev signs law imposing duties on Ukrainian goods

After ratification of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a law on the introduction of duties on Ukrainian goods, the Yevropeiska Pravda online newspaper has reported.
“We are ready to accept the temporary postponement of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, but we won’t accept the early effect of certain provisions of this document,” Medvedev said at an investment forum in Sochi.
He said that the duties would be imposed if Ukraine starts applying economic articles of the association agreement with the EU before January 1, 2016.
As reported, at a meeting in Brussels on September 12, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, EU Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht and Russian Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev agreed to delay the introduction of a deep and comprehensive free trade area envisaged by the Association Agreement until January 1, 2016.
